Louisville industrialist and philanthropist H. Charles Grawemeyer endowed the University of Louisville Grawemeyer Awards in 1984 to, in his words, "help make the world a better place." Grawemeyer, a 1934 alumnus of the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School, made a modest fortune in business and had even more success as an investor. Still, Charlie, as he preferred to be called, maintained a modest lifestyle. Later in life, he founded the multimillion-dollar awards program that pays homage to creativity and genius in human endeavor too much ignored by other awards. "The Power of Ideas" traces the life of this unremarkable man who made a remarkable contribution to his community and, as he dared to dream, the world at large. The book chronicles the process of creating the first four awards and introduces the winning people and ideas for the first 15 years. "The Power of Ideas" is now available through the Grawemeyer Foundation at the University of Louisville. To order the book, send your request plus $36.50 and $2.50 for shipping and handling to: The Grawemeyer Awards, 301 Ford Hall, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY 40292
